Sometimes you will have one of the Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) open and Office 2013 will need to close it down.
Click on the Office Updates available icon to start the download.
If you ignore it, it will fade away after a few seconds, but you can retrieve it again from the system tray (click on the up arrow in the taskbar).
